For a change, I decided to get creative with the base of my pizza. After all, there's no such thing as too many pizza variations, right?
Now, in addition to my familys love for pizza, they also have a soft spot for hash browns. In fact, my Golden Hash Browns recipe is a frequent addition to breakfast. And let's face it, hash browns complement practically anything deliciously. So, I decided to marry these two favourites and create something truly unique: the Hash Brown Waffle Pizza.
I recently upgraded my waffle maker to one that makes square waffles. Initially, I had a round one, but I found myself somewhat restricted in terms of certain recipe ideas. When I stumbled upon a waffle maker with changeable plates for cooking pancakes, burgers, and eggs, along with adjustable temperature settings, I simply couldn't resist. Its versatility extends beyond waffles, making it a fantastic addition to my kitchen arsenal.
With my brand new, versatile waffle maker in hand, I had a stroke of genius: why not use it to create a hash brown waffle as the base for a pizza? Initially, I toyed with the idea of Pizza Stuffed Hash Brown Waffles after trying out a delightful Cheese and Ham Hash Brown Waffle. However, most of the cheese tends to disappear within the waffle, and for a pizza, we all know it needs to be extra cheesy, right?
Instead, I opted to utilize the waffle maker solely for crafting a hash brown base, then adding the toppings and finishing it off in the oven. It's all about maximizing that cheesy goodness!
Since this waffle maker produces square waffles, it's only fitting that the resulting pizza would also be square in shape.
Hereabouts, a square pizza is often referred to as Detroit-style Pizza. We're fairly close to Detroit and make regular visits, though we don't often indulge in the pizza there. It's typically made with a thick, crunchy base and piled high with cheese and toppings—definitely a far cry from our usual eating plan!
The base turned out pretty darn amazing - super crispy, which is just how I like a normal pizza base to be.
For the toppings, I kept it simple with a basic pizza sauce. (If you have the time, my Homemade Pizza Sauce recipe is absolutely fantastic, but no worries if not—I've included a quick cheats version in this recipe.) Then, I generously topped it off with mozzarella cheese for that perfect finishing touch..
But you could easily add your own toppings to this Hash Brown Waffle Pizza - like Pepperoni, bacon, ham, pineapple (think of all the amazing variations!!)

Hash Brown Waffle Pizza
The Ultimate Hash Brown Waffle Pizza: a delectable creation featuring a crispy potato hash brown waffle crust, generously topped with homemade pizza sauce and gooey melted mozzarella.
Ingredients
- 800g of peeled raw floury potatoes
- 1 large egg
- ½ teaspoon of salt
- ¼ teaspoon of onion powder
- black pepper
- low calorie spray oil
- for the pizza sauce:
- 1 cup of crushed tomatoes (or passata)
- 2 tablespoon of tomato paste
- pinch of garlic powder
- pinch of onion powder
- ½ tablespoon of granulated sweetener
- 1 teaspoon of oregano
- fresh chopped Italian parsley or basil
- 120g of mozzarella torn into pieces
Instructions
- Once peeled place the potatoes in a bowl of water to prevent any browning, as once exposed to air, peeled potatoes will brown quickly.
- Grate potatoes, squeezing out any excess moisture and then place into a large bowl with the egg and mix to coat.
- Add the salt, onion powder and a little black pepper and mix again.
- Heat waffle iron and make sure you grease well with spray oil, brushing it all over with a silicone brush to make sure all grooves are well coated, this is important to prevent any sticking.
- Add the potato mixture in spoonfuls until you cover the waffle iron in a even layer and close down the waffle iron, I cooked these on heat temp 5 (but it may vary on different waffle irons). When you close down the waffle iron, push down firmly, so it presses all the potato together.
- Preheat oven to 220c/425f
- After about 6 minutes you can start checking every couple of minutes until it is lovely and crisp and golden all over.
- Carefully remove Hash Brown waffle and transfer to a baking tray.
- Add pizza sauce and spread across the top, sprinkle with mozzarella (and any other toppings if using) and bake for approx 15 minutes until cheese is melted and golden.
- Serve and enjoy!!

Hi Siobhan
LOVE all your recipes! There are not enough meals in a week for me to try them all!
With this one....Does your SW and WW and Nutrional info include any toppings? Or are they JUST for the waffle base?
Thanks
