Ingredients Needed
To make this grilled pork chops, you will need the following ingredients:
- Boneless Pork Shoulder Steaks: I love pork shoulder steaks as they stay nice and tender. I just trim off the outer visible fat to keep it as lean as possible.
- Soy Sauce: choose low sodium
- Seasonings: Smoked paprika, chili powder, cumin, oregano, garlic powder, and onion powder are mixed together to create a flavourful dry rub for the pork.
- Salt and Pepper: These basic yet essential flavour enhancers are key for elevating the taste of your dishes. No food will ever be bland when these are used to season to taste.
- Olive Oil: a small amount is used in this recipe to help the dry rub adhere to the pork, ensuring the spices evenly coat and penetrate the meat for enhanced flavor. Additionally, it aids in achieving a crisp exterior when cooking.
- Maple Syrup: this is added to balance the heat and spices of the dry rub. It also helps to create a caramelized glaze on the pork during cooking, enhancing the overall flavor and appearance of the dish. Honey can be used as a substitute.
- Low calorie spray: Use your preferred choice of low calorie spray, I prefer olive oil or avocado sprays without any added emulsifiers.
Once you've gathered all the ingredients and prepared them accordingly, you're all set to create this easy and delightful recipe.

Best Pan for Pork Chops
For indoor grilling of pork chops and steaks, opting for a cast iron skillet or grill pan is your best bet. Its brilliant heat retention and even cooking guarantee a perfect sear and succulent meat. The robustness of cast iron ensures it's a kitchen staple for years to come.
Additionally, using a grill pan gives you those coveted grill marks, boosting both the look and taste of your dishes. Although cast iron might need a bit more looking after, the payoff in flavour and texture when grilling meats indoors is well worth the effort.
Perfect Sides for Pork Chops
Elevate your grilled BBQ pork chops with sides that complement their smoky richness. I love to serve them with Crispy golden roasted potatoes and sautéed corn and courgette. Simply sauté the vegetables in a pan until lightly golden with garlic, salt, and pepper.
This Rustic Parmesan Garlic Mashed Potatoes is also a delicious side, offering a creamy texture with a flavourful twist from the garlic and a generous sprinkle of Parmesan cheese. It’s an indulgent accompaniment that pairs wonderfully with the succulence of the pork..
Other vegetable side suggestions include:
- Asparagus: grilled, roasted, or sautéed asparagus. Asparagus, with its natural sweetness, is versatile enough to be prepared in multiple ways. Whether grilled for smokiness, roasted for caramelisation, or sautéed for a tender crunch, it pairs beautifully with BBQ Grilled pork.
- Corn on the cob: Grilled or boiled, it brings a sweet, crunchy texture.
- Coleslaw: A classic side that adds a refreshing crunch and tangy flavour. Try my Lighter Creamy Coleslaw or Apple Coleslaw
- Sweet potato fries: Oven-baked for a healthier option, they offer a sweet and savoury contrast.
- Other Green Vegetable Suggestions:
- Brussels Sprouts: Roasted with some low calorie spray and a sprinkle of sea salt to bring out their nutty flavour.
- Green Beans: Blanched and then tossed in a little butter
- Mixed Salad: A fresh salad with a light vinaigrette dressing can add a refreshing touch to balance the hearty pork.
These sides ensure a well-rounded meal, enhancing the flavours of your grilled BBQ pork chops and turning a simple dish into a feast.
