Butter Chicken Poutine!! - The ultimate dish for leftover butter chicken - crispy golden skin on fries, topped with butter chicken and melted cheese make this one of those recipes you will not ever want to end.
Canadian Poutine
If you have tried my Poutine, you will know just how dreamy and heavenly a dish poutine is. It's one of the staples here in Canada - traditionally skin on golden fried served with cheddar cheese curds and rich delicious gravy. It is a must try dish if you ever visit Canada.
But please don't go and order it from a fast food chain, find a proper poutinerie if you can.
Not only do we have the traditional poutine here in Canada, there are also many variations on mix ins and one of my favourite is Butter Chicken. Whenever I have leftovers of this Healthy Butter Chicken Recipe, this poutine is a must.
Fries for Poutine
Any poutine needs the perfect cooked fries and if you struggled to get a healthy oven baked version perfected. You need to check out my Perfect Oven Baked Chips. You too can have perfect golden and crispy chips every time using this method.
Hey for poutine, you don't even need to peel the potatoes if you don't want to. Skin on potatoes are a regular feature for poutine. Plus that skin has all the fibre, so keep that skin on.
Substitutes for Cheese Curds for Poutine
If you are living out of Canada (or North America, the chances of finding Cheddar Cheese curds are pretty slim.
A great substitute is some mozzarella instead, if you break it into pieces it is a similar texture to cheese curds. The only tip is to add a pinch of sea salt to the top for some flavour.
Of course if you can get your hands on some cheese curds, using those is a must.
How Can I add Vegetables to Butter Chicken Poutine?
Personally salad or similar has no place on this dish. To add any to it would not be poutine. However, there are some veggies in the sauce part of the butter chicken and you can always have your salad in a bowl on the side. You could also stir through some chopped red pepper into the butter chicken when heating it up.

Butter Chicken Poutine
Butter Chicken Poutine!! - The ultimate dish for leftover butter chicken - crispy golden fries, topped with butter chicken and melted cheese make this one of those recipes you will not ever want to end.
Ingredients
- 600g (21oz) of floury potatoes (leave skin on) - cook as per my Perfect Chips - click for recipe
- 1 serving of leftover Butter Chicken - warmed up - click for recipe
- 100g (3.5oz) of mozzarella - roughly broken into chunks
- sea salt
- fresh coriander (cilantro)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 200c, 180c fan 400f (gas mark 6) and cook chips as per my Perfect Chips
- Once chips are cooked.
- Divide chips on the tray into two servings, top each serving with some warmed up leftover butter chicken
- Scatter each serving with mozzarella (add a pinch of sea salt over the top)
- Place back in the oven for a couple of minutes just until the mozzarella starts to melt.
- Then carefully using a spatula, move the poutine to a plate.
- Scatter with freshly chopped coriander.
- Dig in and enjoy!!
