Ingredients Needed
Here are some notes on the ingredients used in this recipe:
- Swede (Rutabaga), spiralled: Swede, also known as rutabaga, is a root vegetable with a slightly sweet and earthy flavour. When spiralised, it creates thin and curly strands perfect for making fries.
- Paprika: Paprika adds a warm and slightly sweet flavour to the fries while also providing a vibrant red colour. It enhances the overall taste of the dish with its subtle smokiness.
- Cumin: Cumin brings a warm and aromatic flavour to the fries, with hints of earthiness and spice. It complements the sweetness of the swede and adds depth to the seasoning.
- Onion Powder and Garlic Powder: Onion powder and garlic powder contribute savoury notes and aromatic complexity to the fries. They infuse the swede strands with rich flavour without the need for chopping fresh onions and garlic.
- Sea Salt: Sea salt enhances the natural flavours of the swede fries while also providing seasoning. It helps to balance the flavours and bring out the best in each ingredient.
- Olive Oil: Olive oil is used to coat the swede fries before baking, helping to achieve a crispy exterior while keeping the fries moist on the inside. It adds richness and helps the seasoning adhere to the swede strands during cooking.
Once you've gathered all the ingredients and prepared them accordingly, you're all set to create this easy and delightful recipe.

Choosing the Best Spiralizer
Investing in a quality vegetable spiralizer can revolutionize your cooking, offering versatility in crafting beautifully spiralized vegetables and fruits. While handheld spiralizers provide convenience, they are limited to stick-shaped vegetables. Opting for a sturdy countertop model allows for spiralizing various vegetable shapes.
The Paderno vegetable spiralizer is celebrated for its durability and dependable blades, with alternatives like the Müller Spiral-Pro Professional 4-Blade Spiralizer offering similar functionality. Researching online reviews helps find the right spiralizer, and incorporating spiralized vegetables into meals enhances nutrition and variety. KitchenAid mixer owners can even opt for spiralizer attachments with multiple blade options.
Variations and Substitutes
Mix up the spiralized seasoned swede fries with some different vegetables and seasonings to suit your tastes and dietary requirements. Here are some ideas:
Vegetables:
- Carrots: Add a burst of colour and natural sweetness to your fries.
- Regular Potatoes: For those not focused on lower carb options, regular potatoes offer classic taste and texture.
- Sweet Potatoes: Combine with swede for a sweeter twist on traditional fries.
- Parsnips: Provide a slightly sweet and nutty flavour profile, perfect for roasting.
- Butternut Squash: Enhance the sweetness and creaminess of your fries.
Seasoning Variations:
- Cayenne Pepper: Add a hint of heat to your fries for an extra kick.
- Smoked Paprika: Infuse a rich, smoky flavour that complements the sweetness of the vegetables.
- Garlic and Herb Seasoning: Elevate the taste with aromatic garlic and a blend of fragrant herbs.
- Italian Seasoning: Bring a Mediterranean flair with a blend of oregano, basil, thyme, and rosemary.
- Cajun Seasoning: Introduce bold and spicy flavours for a Southern-inspired twist.

what a wonderful recipe! My child can't eat much paprika so can i minimum the amount of it ? How long will this dish last in the refrigerator?
Shevy (Slimming Eats) says
yes you totally can reduce the seasoning, in fact any combination of seasoning is really good on these. I'd say they will keep a couple of days in the fridge. Hope that helps 🙂
