It's that time of year, where hot cross buns are everywhere, tempting us wherever we go. I mean what's not to love about a thickly buttered hot cross bun?
But for some that might be a little too high of your daily allowance, and set you up for failure just by having them in the house, because you know just one is never going to be enough.
What do you do? Make these Hot Cross Bun Baked Oats of course
and while they don't have that bready texture you expect with a hot cross bun, they do have all those flavours and really satisfy the cravings.

Inspiration from this recipe was from the amazing recipes by Paul Hollywood. So if only the real deal will do, go check out his recipe.
But if you want a inspired version, you have come to the right place :). It's a pretty genius idea to get that hot cross bun look and I was really happy with the result. They tasted so good too. Which is, of course, the most important part of all.
Using gluten-free oats, will mean this recipe is gluten-free, which is great for those with allergies who want those Hot Cross Bun flavours.

How can I add a ⅓ vegetables to these Hot Cross Bun Baked Oats?
Serve with some fruits of your choosing, I spaced them out in the day as a snack and enjoyed with a cup of tea with some sliced apple and raspberries - really delicious!!
Fruit is not compulsory, so if you want to just enjoy the hot cross bun baked oats that is perfect fine. Just add as much vegetables as you can to your meals elsewhere in the day.

Hot Cross Bun Baked Oats
Hot Cross Bun Baked Oats – whether it’s for breakfast, a snack or even dessert, these Hot Cross Bun Baked Oats are delish.
Ingredients
- 40g of oats
- ¾ teaspoon of baking powder
- ½ teaspoon of cinnamon
- 1 egg
- ⅓ cup of plain fat free yoghurt
- 2 tbs of Sukrin:1 ( or another granulated sweetener of your choice)
- 50g apple, chopped small
- 12g of sultanas
- little orange zest
- 3 tbs of plain fat free yoghurt
- ½ tbs of apricot jam
- cooking oil spray
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 180c/350f or gas mark 4
- Add the oats, baking powder and cinnamon to a bowl and mix to combine
- Stir together the yoghurt, egg and Sukrin and whisk to combine.
- Mix this into the oats until all combined together.
- Fold in the apple, sultanas and orange zest.
- Grease 3 ramekin dishes with cooking oil spray
- Spoon the mixture evenly into the 3 ramekin dishes.
- Add the two additional tbs of yoghurt to a ziplock bag, push it all into one corner and then snip off the corner with scissors to make into a piping baking.
- Carefully pipe the crosses for the hot cross buns on the top (I did the lines twice)
- Place in the oven and bake for approx 30 mins
- When the baked oats have almost baked for 30 mins, add the apricot jam with a little splash of water to a bowl and microwave for 10 secs.
- Brush this over the top and continue to bake for an additional 10 mins, so that the topping goes lovely and caramelised on top.
- Serve and enjoy - great hot or cold!
