Chicken Meatballs with an Asian Barbecue Sauce

Recipe yield 15 meatballs

Extra Easy – approx 1 syn per 5 meatballs

Original – approx 1 syn per 5 meatballs

Ingredients

for the meatballs:

450g extra lean chicken mince

1 egg

1 chicken stock cube

1/4 teaspoon of garlic salt

1/4 teaspoon of onion powder

some basil

for the barbecue sauce:

1 tablespoon of hoisin sauce (1.5 syns)

1 teaspoon of honey (1 syn)

3 tablespoons of soy sauce

2 tablespoons of rice vinegar

1 tablespoon of fish sauce

1 teaspoon of sweetener

1/2 teaspoon of ground ginger

1/2 teaspoon of garlic powder

1/2 teaspoon of Chinese five spice

To Serve:

Some finely chopped spring onions

Method

Preheat oven to 200c or 400f

Add all the ingredients for the meatballs to a large bowl and bind together, form into balls.

Mix all the ingredients for the sauce (marinade) in a bowl.

Heat a frying pan, spray with non stick spray and lightly brown on all sides. Transfer to an ovenproof dish. Pour marinade over the meatballs.

Bake for approx 25-30 mins. Until meatballs are cooked through.

Take out at several intervals to baste. Serve topped with spring onion.

    you just pour it over the meatballs and bake in the oven :)

    I’ve never heard of Asian meatballs before but these would make an awesome party appetizer!

    thanks, it was just something I kind of threw together, but it worked extremely well and you are right, they would be great as a party appetizer. I hope you enjoy them, should you ever try the recipe :) .
