The Best Potatoes for Mashed Potatoes (Mash)
What type of potatoes make the best mash? I always steer clear of really floury potatoes because, in my experience, they tend to result in dry mash unless you're willing to add generous amounts of butter, milk, or cream.
We're all about keeping those calories to a minimum, right? Using potatoes that require less added fat means we can enjoy a satisfying portion without excess calories.
The trick is to opt for a semi-waxy, buttery variety of potato, and in my opinion, Yukon Golds are unbeatable! They boast a delightful buttery flavour without the need for additional butter.
If you're in the UK and seeking a similar variety, you can't go wrong with Maris Piper, Charlotte, Elfe, Golden Barlett, or Desiree potatoes. Don't fret if they're on the smaller side-this recipe keeps the skins on, so there's no need for peeling

Substitutes for Parmesan
Don't like the strong flavour of parmesan and prefer a milder tasting cheese?
Then go for some good quality cheddar or red Leicester - the latter will add a more of an orange streak through the mashed potatoes, but it will still taste amazing.
It's those flecks of cheesy goodness that take this rustic mash to a whole other level - yum!!
