Delicious creamy hummus with the amazing flavours of roasted garlic for a perfect dip to enjoy for lunch or as a snack

I love hummus, it's one of my favourite go to snacks and so easy to make yourself at home.
One of my family's favourite hummus recipes is this amazing Roasted Sweet Potato Hummus on Slimming Eats, and pairs well with these yummy Crispy Cheddar Pita Chips. But when I fancy a variation then this Roasted Garlic Hummus is a great alternative.
Ingredients for Hummus
Hummus usually follow the same typical ingredients with a slight variation on the flavouring you are adding.
So for hummus it's usually typically:
- Chickpeas
- Seasonings
- Tahini (yes you can make without, but it's for the best tasting hummus it's a must). It is usually available at all major grocery stores.
- Add ins for flavour - for this variation it's garlic and lots of it.
How to make Hummus
While you can make hummus from dried chickpeas which you soak and cook yourself, it so easy and quick to just open a can, which is great if you want a fast and easy snack.
A blender or food processor is definitely a useful gadget to have if you want that really smooth texture. I actually like mine a little coarse. I have a cuisinart mini food processor that I use to make mine, but even a hand (stick) blender is fine.
If you don't have a blender or food processor a masher or similar tool will work, you are just not going to get as smooth a result.

What to dip in Hummus?
Wondering what to dip in hummus? There are actually so many options.
If you want to keep down the healthy low calorie route, then veggie crudites are your best options. Things liike:
- Carrot
- Celery
- Sugar Snap Peas
- Raw Cauliflower
- Bell Peppers
- Cucumber
- Jicama
and then there are these other great non vegetable options:
- Pita Chips
- Crisps
- Pretzels
- Crackers
- Crisp Breads
- Bread/Toast
- Tortilla Chips
How to store Homemade Hummus
Place in a lidded tub and refrigerate and homemade hummus should keep for up a week.
If you prefer you can freeze it, which is handy if you are doubling or tripling the recipe to make a larger batch. In the freezer so long as it is stored in a airtight container, it should keep up to 4 months.

Hi Siobhan,
I love all your recipes and really want to try this. I find it very difficult to buy tinned chickpeas so always have cooked chickpeas in my freezer, what would I add as the liquid from the tin? Would it just be water?
Thanks
Carol
