Fresh Easy Mango Salsa
This Fresh Easy Mango Salsa is delicious served as a dip or as a side to grilled meats. It is one of my favourite go to salsa recipes, because I love the freshness and the sweetness of the fresh mango with that spicy heat.
When ever I spot some fresh ripe mangos on sale, I always grab one or two just so I can make up some of this.
Forget store bought jarred varieties. Once you taste fresh there is no going back.
What is Salsa?
So what exactly is salsa? Salsa is a common condiment that is often served as a side for tacos or Mexican foods.
Typically they are mostly tomato based, but you can also get different varieties such as green salsa (salsa verde), corn salsa and then my favourite, salsa with fruit such as pineapple or mango.
Then you can also buy fresh, jarred or make you own. Fresh is always so much nicer in taste and it's super quick to make if you have the ingredients on hand.
Heat level of Jalapenos
The heat in salsa generally comes from Jalapenos. How much heat you get depends on how you prep for you salsa.
I like to keep mine pretty mild, so that the kids will eat it, and they are not keen on foods which are too spicy.
I remove both the seeds and the white pith (the white membrane inside a jalapeno. Most mistakenly think if they remove the seeds they remove the heat, but actually the majority of the heat is in the white pith part of a jalapeno.
Ingredients in Mango Salsa
Some salsa recipes require your to pulse all the ingredients in a food processor so it is more saucy in appearance. But for this mango salsa, just finely dicing is the best, you want to get little flavour burst of each ingredient.
To my mango Salsa I like to use:
- Fresh Ripe Mango
- Jalapeno
- Red Pepper
- Red Onion
- Ripe Tomatoes
- Cilantro (fresh Coriander)
- Cucumber
- Lime Juice
- Sea Salt
Pretty simple fresh ingredients, right?
What to Serve with Mango Salsa?
If you grilling or barbecuing some protein, then this is the perfect side to serve, it goes amazingly well with a variety of main dishes.
One of my favourites ways to enjoy this Mango Salsa is with these Crispy Cheddar Pita Chips and some of this Pea Guacamole. So so yummy!!
It also makes a great healthy movie snack to share.

Mango Salsa
Mango Salsa - super quick to make, beautiful vibrant colours and fresh delicious flavours with the sweetness of ripe mango and the spicy kick from jalapeno.
Ingredients
- 1 large ripe mango (or 2 small), cubed small
- 2 ripe medium tomatoes, peel, deseeded and chopped
- ½ small red onion, diced
- ⅓ of a English cucumber, diced
- 1 jalapeno pepper, deseeded and pith removed and diced
- ½ red pepper, diced
- juice of half of a lime
- pinch of sea salt
- 2 tablespoons of freshly chopped coriander
Instructions
- Add the mango, tomatoes, onion, cucumber, red pepper and jalapeno to a large bowl.
- Season with a little salt, add your fresh chopped coriander and the juice from half a lime and mix together well with a large spoon.
- Allow to sit for approx 1 hour before serving to allow the flavours to combine.
- Great served with a variety of dishes or as a dip.
