Ingredient Notes
To make this recipe you will need the following ingredients:
- Greek Yoghurt: Thick Fat Free Greek yoghurt gives this dip its creamy, rich texture and tangy flavour.
- Garlic: Adds that classic bold savoury flavour that makes tzatziki so tasty. You can adjust the amount depending on how garlicky you like it.
- Salt and Black Pepper: Helps bring all the flavours together and seasons the dip just right.
- Dried Dill: Adds a lovely herby flavour that works perfectly in this kind of cool and creamy dip.
- English Cucumber: Adds freshness and a little texture. English cucumber works best as it has fewer seeds and less water than regular cucumber.
- Lemon Juice: Adds a little brightness and lifts all the flavours in the dip.
- Extra Virgin Olive Oil: A small drizzle adds a nice richness and rounded flavour to finish everything off.
Once you've gathered all the ingredients and prepared them accordingly, you're all set to create this easy and delightful recipe.
See the recipe card for specific quantities and instructions.
Variations and Substitutes
Fresh dill can be used instead of dried dill, and fresh mint is also a nice option for a slightly different flavour. If you don't have Greek yoghurt, any thick plain yoghurt will work, but the dip may be a little looser.
For a creamier version, stir in a little light mayonnaise and add a touch more lemon juice to keep it fresh and balanced or if you want to make it into a decadent style dip, stir in some crumbled feta. So good!!

What to serve with this Tzatziki Dip
This dip is really versatile and works well as part of a light lunch, snacky spread or side. I love to serve it with warm pitta, crunchy salad, grilled chicken, lamb, turkey burgers, kebabs or spooned alongside roasted potatoes and Mediterranean-style dishes. It also goes really well in a Greek-style bowl with your choice of protein, cucumber, tomatoes, red onion, feta, rice or warmed pitta, or even served with Greek-style potatoes.
It's also great as a dip for carrot sticks, cucumber, peppers or homemade chips, and you can even use it as a fresh topping for wraps, bowls or falafel.
How to store Tzatziki Dip
Store the tzatziki in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. Give it a good stir before serving, as a little liquid may separate as it sits.
I don't recommend freezing this one, as the yoghurt and cucumber can change in texture once thawed and make the dip watery. For the best flavour and texture, it's definitely best enjoyed fresh or within a couple of days.
