Cooking Fried Eggs
For a good fried egg we often think lots of oil or fat is needed, due to the name "fried" egg, but actually if you have the right kind of pan and use my trusty method, you can cook a perfect fried egg with very little oil.
What Pan is best to cook a Fried Egg?
If you want to fry an egg with little to no oil, the best type of pan to use is a good quality non stick pan. Non stick pans are perfect for preventing food from sticking to the surface, allowing you to cook with very little oil or just a little bit of spray oil.
Note: When using spray oils with non stick cookware, avoid ones that use emulsifiers. You want one where the only ingredients is oil, as emulsifiers can react with the coating and cause a sticky residue which is hard to remove.
You want to choose a pan that is the right size for the number of eggs you are cooking.
When I am cooking an egg just for one. I like to use my single egg pan by Starfrit which you can see in use in my pictures below:

If you are cooking more than one egg, then you will want a larger non stick pan.

But there are lots of great options for non stick cookware including ceramic pans. I recommend asking friends and family for their favourite brands and check out reviews before you purchase.
The trick to a perfectly cooked fried egg
The key to cooking a fried egg without that slimy top, is a lid, especially if you are not keen on flipping your egg over (over easy).
So to achieve this you want a lid that fits the pan you are using. The steam trapped underneath will cook the top of the egg to perfection while still keeping a nice runny yolk that so many of us love.
Step by Step for How to cook a perfect fried egg
Put your pan on a medium heat and spray with some spray oil
Once the pan gets hot crack in your egg
Once you see the white of the egg start to set, Turn the heat down a little and then get your lid (which is about the same size as the pan, and cover over the egg)
The steam that gets trapped inside, will then cook the top of the egg, but still leave your with a nice intact soft yolk.
Once the egg yolk starts to go a pale translucent white over the top, then your egg is ready
Serve with your favourite toasted bread, or why not cook yourself a couple of eggs using this method and serve with your favourite breakfast sides,
Don't forget to season. Salt and black pepper is a must.

How to Cook a Perfect Fried Egg
The easy method for cooking a perfect fried egg with no oil
Ingredients
- 1 fresh large egg
- salt and black pepper
- olive oil spray
Instructions
- Heat a non stick frying pan over a medium high heat and spray with olive oil spray.
- Once the pan get hots, crack in the egg and once you see the white start to form, turn down the heat a little.
- Add a lid and continue to cook until the top is just translucent but still runny (or cooked to your liking)
- Season with salt and black pepper
- Serve and Enjoy!!
