Ingredients Needed
Here are some notes on the ingredients used in this recipe:
- Dried Dates: Sweet, chewy, and packed with natural goodness, dates bring a caramel-like richness to these bites. Removing the pits ensures a smooth and seamless blending process, allowing their sweet flavour to shine through in every bite.
- Almonds: Crunchy and nutty, almonds provide a hearty texture and a dose of wholesome goodness to these treats. Rich in healthy fats, protein, and fibre, they add a satisfying crunch and elevate the overall nutritional profile of the bites.
- Orange Extract: Bursting with citrusy zest, orange extract infuses these bites with a bright and refreshing flavour. Its aromatic essence complements the sweetness of the dates and the richness of the cocoa powder, adding a delightful twist to every bite.
- Cocoa Powder: Deep, indulgent, and intensely chocolatey, cocoa powder forms the decadent backbone of these treats. Opting for 100% cocoa powder ensures pure chocolatey goodness without any added sugars or fillers, allowing the rich cocoa flavour to take centre stage. Do not use hot chocolate powder.
Once you've gathered all the ingredients and prepared them accordingly, you're all set to create this easy and delightful recipe.

Variations and Substitutes
Explore endless possibilities with these easy variations and substitutes for your Healthy Chocolate Orange Bites!
- Nut Butter Swirl: For a creamy twist, try swirling a dollop of your favourite nut butter into the mixture before shaping the bites. Peanut butter, almond butter, or cashew butter all make delicious additions, adding richness and depth to the flavour profile.
- Coconut Flakes: Add a tropical flair by rolling the finished bites in unsweetened coconut flakes. Not only does this add a delightful crunch, but it also enhances the overall texture and imparts a hint of coconut flavour to each bite.
- Spice Infusion: Elevate the flavour profile with a pinch of your favourite spices. Ground cinnamon, nutmeg, or even a touch of cayenne pepper can add warmth and complexity to the bites, creating a more dynamic taste experience.
- Different Extracts: Try flavouring with some different extracts like vanilla, coconut etc
- Nut-Free Option: If you have nut allergies or simply prefer a nut-free option, you can substitute the almonds with seeds such as sunflower seeds or pumpkin seeds. These seeds offer a similar crunchy texture and are packed with nutrients, making them an excellent alternative.
- Fruit Variations: Experiment with different dried fruits to customize the flavour of your bites. Dried cranberries, apricots, or figs can add a unique sweetness and tanginess to the mix, creating a flavourful variation that's sure to please your taste buds.
- Chocolate Indulgence: Incorporate chopped dark chocolate or chocolate chips into the mixture for an extra decadent touch of chocolatey goodness.
Storage Tips!
Once your Healthy Chocolate Orange Bites are made, it's important to store them properly to maintain their freshness and flavour. Follow these simple tips for optimal storage:
- Air-Tight Container: Transfer the bites to an air-tight container to keep them fresh for longer. Choose a container that seals tightly to prevent air from entering and causing the bites to dry out. They should keep about 3 days in a container.
- Refrigeration: Store the container of bites in the refrigerator to keep them fresh for up to one week.
- Layering: If stacking the bites in the container, consider placing parchment paper between layers to prevent them from sticking together.
- Labeling: Don't forget to label the container with the date of preparation to keep track of freshness and type you have made, especially if making different versions.
With these storage tips, your Healthy Chocolate Orange Bites will stay delicious for whenever you need a tasty treat!
